Best Cafes in Jardin Colombia: Where to Get Your Coffee?

Situated in the coffee region of Colombia, Jardin has no shortage of cafes and coffee farms to visit. As you can imagine, the quality of the coffee found in Colombia’s coffee triangle is second to none. Even locals will tell you – one of the best things to do in Jardín is enjoy a local coffee shop.

We’ll tell you where to find delights like this in our guide!

We spent four days exploring Jardin in Antioquia and we discovered some of the best cafes in town! From delicious coffee to mouth watering pastries and fresh juices, we want to outline which places we consider to be the best cafes in Jardin Colombia!

Best Cafes in Jardin Colombia

Some of the best cafes in Jardin can be found right in the centre at the main square. Other cafes you’ll have to undertake a small hike into the foothills of the Colombian Andes. There are also a couple of coffee farms we’ll talk about that offer an even more unique coffee experience.

Follow the signs for great coffee!

So in no particular order, here they are!

Cafe Jardin (Best cafe in Jardin!)

Cafe Jardin was our favourite cafe in Jardin! It’s allure isn’t only its coffee though, but the view you get while drinking it…

Cafe Jardin sits in the Andes mountains.

Cafe Jardin sits around 180m above the town of Jardin in the foothills of the Andes mountains. As such, the panoramic view from Cafe Jardin is the best in town! You have a full view of Jardin, the Basilica of Immaculate Conception, the surrounding farmland and views across the Andes as far as the eye can see!

You can either hike up, like we did, which takes about 40 minutes, or you can hire a tuk tuk. A tuk tuk will set you back 18,000 COP ($4.36) each way and takes around 20 minutes. However, it can be hard to book a tuk tuk back to town unless you have the right numbers to call and a good grasp of Spanish!

Honestly, this view alone is worth heading to Cafe Jardin.

Although, we still think hiking is the best way. Our coffee and cake tasted soo much better after we earned it! Also, you’ll be able to take a stop at the next cafe on this list along the way.

If you want to know the route we took, check out the “Cafe Jardin Loop Hike” section in our Cascada la Escalera guide!

Cafe Cristo Rey

Along the route from Jardin town to Cafe Jardin, you’ll cross paths with another cafe.  We found that Cristo Rey was a lot less popular than Cafe Jardin, which made it perfect to escape the crowds. However, it still boasts the same spectacular view!

A sweaty selfie when we made it to Cristo Rey.

Along with a coffee and some sweet treats, you can also admire their giant white statue of Jesus. From above, it looks like Jesus is watching over the town of Jardin!

You may read online that you can take the Cable Aereo de Jardin (a.k.a. Teleferico la Garrucha). We went to check it out but it looks like this cable car hasn’t been operational for some time.

Cafe Macanas

For us Cafe Macanas was an absolute life-saver! We were in dire straits when we ran out of cash during our visit to Jardin. It was a Sunday, all of the ATMs were either broken or empty, and most places do not accept card payments…

This was when Cafe Macanas came to our rescue! There we were, getting hangry, and then we found Cafe Macanas on the main plaza of Jardin, to the left of the basilica.

We ordered ourselves torta de chocolat y helado (chocolate cake and ice cream) and a couple of drinks. Everything was delicious – Sara absolutely loved the coffee! With the cakes devoured and 26,500 COP ($6.42) each lighter, life was good again.

It was as delicious as it looks – and a huge portion!

We actually went back a second time the next day for a local breakfast, which was also delicious!

Cafe Europa

Cafe Europa is found directly to the right of Cafe Macanas. Less of a cafe and more of a restaurant, Cafe Europa is only open between 5:30pm – 9:30pm.

A shot we took of Cafe Europa before it opened.

Offering artisanal pizzas, delicious pasta and flavourful salads, Cafe Europa is one of the best restaurants in town! The coffee’s pretty good too! Although, much to our dismay, they don’t accept card payments.

Cafe Cuchillas

Cafe Cuchillas is also on the edge of Jardin’s main plaza – to the right of the basilica. With outdoor seating, here you can drink your coffee while admiring the Basilica of Immaculate Conception. Or you can people watch on the plaza, it’s up to you!

All outdoor seating in Jardin has these hard plastic umbrellas – including Cafe Cuchillas.

With a coffee and a meal only setting you back between 20,000 – 30,000 COP ($4.84 – $7.27), what’s not to enjoy!

Cafe de los Andes

Cafe de los Andes is the last cafe on the main plaza we’re going to talk about. However, this cafe offers a unique view that the others do not – a balcony! Yup, you can enjoy your 50¢ pure Colombian coffee from their second floor overlooking Plaza de Libertador!

We had a great view from up here and could see across to the basilica, the central fountain and to the bars on the opposite side. Another great place to people watch and another spot not to be missed!

Cafe Latte

Moving away from the main plaza, Cafe Latte is a cute little spot we found along Carrera 6. Because of its location, you won’t see this cafe on other blogs!

On google maps, you’ll find this cafe under “Fusion Cafelatte y La Placita Mex”. This is because this little place is a fusion between a cafe and a Mexican restaurant. You can grab yourself a creamy local coffee and a desayuno during the day, or a budget-friendly burrito of an evening!

We didn’t get to try the Mexican but the coffee at Cafe Latte was great!

With a general meal only costing 10,000 – 20,000 COP ($2.42 – $4.84), this is the ideal place for budget and affordable travellers alike!

Cafe y Carbon

Cafe y Carbon is not too far from the main plaza on Carrera 5. Here you can choose whether you want coffee, breakfast, lunch or dinner! It’s a great spot to try some local Colombian food in Jardin.

Despite appearances, this girl was not the owner of Cafe y Carbon…

For breakfast, we’d recommend the ‘huevos con arepa chocolat’. For lunch or dinner, if you’re particularly hungry, go for the Banda Paisa! Banda Paisa is a typical Colombian dish that I absolutely love! But it’s huugeee, so I’d avoid it if you have a small stomach (or if you’re vegetarian).

Dulces del Jardin

We’re sort of cheating with this one as it’s not really a cafe. Dulces de Jardin literally translates to ‘Garden Sweets’ – and that’s exactly what they offer!

Found on Calle 13, Dulces de Jardin offers a beautifully decorated interior that we absolutely loved! Here you can indulge in delectable homemade desserts or pick up a jar of dulce de leche

Find Dulces del Jardin on Calle 13!

Dulce de leche is a popular Latin-American confectionary made by slowly heating up milk with sugar. This creates a sweet, spreadable jam-like substance that can be eaten with the dessert of your choice!

Yeah, we highly recommend you stop here – they do coffee too!

Finca Los Angeles Jardin

Finca los Angeles is the first of two coffee farms we’re recommending in this guide. It can be found in Casiana Village which is about a 30 minute drive north-west of Jardin.

Here the owners will talk you through the coffee production process. They’ll teach you about the details of each step so you can get an in-depth look into the behind the scenes of a coffee farm.

You could even book a horse ride to take you to Finca Los Angeles.

After, you’ll be treated to a meal made with locally sourced ingredients from the farm. A cup of coffee created from their own coffee beans will also be offered… obviously!

To book a spot on their tour, you can message them on WhatsApp (+57 305 3174109).

Finca Milena

The last member of our list is Finca Milena. Like Finca Los Angeles, you can book a coffee tour here to get a look into how coffee farms are run. The tour costs roughly $25pp.

The view over Jardin town and the basilica in a valley in the Andes from Cafe Jardin.
You can imaging how good this place is for coffee farms!

However, what makes Finca Milena stand out is you can actually book to stay here! On Airbnb, for 400,000 COP ($93.69) per night you can live on the farm. We get that this isn’t an option for everyone, it’s definitely a high price for budget travellers. But why not splash out for one night just to have the experience of staying on a coffee farm?

Other cafes in Jardin

It’s impossible for us to cover every single cafe in Jardin. Even over four days, that would be a lot of coffee for Sara to drink (I hate coffee…)! But here are a few other notable options around town that we didn’t manage to get to:

  • Cafe del Atrio
  • Cafeteria Manzanares
  • Cafeteria Punto Rojo
  • Cafe Postabon Moncada
  • Montecarlo
  • Cafeteria el Alazan
  • Cero Cero

How to get to Jardin

To try the best cafes in Jardin, you first need to get to Jardin! The main way to (and from) Jardin is from Medellin.

We booked with a company called Rapido Ochoa through the Busbud website. It cost us 76,000 COP ($18.40) each for a return bus. However, you may want to head onto other places such as:

  • Salento
  • Armenia
  • Bogota
  • Manizales

If, like us, you do travel from Medellin, this was the process:

  1. Head to the busbud.com website.
  2. Check for buses leaving from Medellin to Jardin and choose the option that suits you best.
  3. Head to Terminal del Sur in Medellin and plan to arrive 30-45 minutes before your bus departs.
  4. If you booked with Rapido Ochoa, you need to check-in and get your tickets at desk 34.
  5. Head to the bay number on your ticket and board your bus!
